Sayf al-Din al-Amidi

Sayf al-Din al-Amidi (d.1233) was an influential jurist of the Shafi`i school who worked to combine kalam (theology) with existing methods of jurisprudence. He spent his childhood and received in education in Damascus and Baghdad before moving to Egypt at an early age. He grew to fame there and was accused of using heretical, rationalist, methods before eventually returning to Damascus where he would remain until death. His most famous work on Islamic jurisprudence is Al-ihkam fi usul al-ahkam.
