[edit] Thanks for work on Saga of the Skolian Empire
| On behalf of myself and the Kindness Campaign, I'd like to present this barnstar to Sapphire1000 for awesome edits on numerous Saga of the Skolian Empire pages. Congratulations, and thank you! ♥ JamieJones talk |
- I should have looked more closely - why did you merge away so many pages? Can you quote a Wikipedia policy? I worked hard so that the terms would be searchable for someone reading the books, once they get to the category. Please explain. JamieJones talk 22:15, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

- Hi JamieJones! Thank you very much for your Barnstar. I tried very hard to create good Skolian Empire pages with lots of useful info. Hopefully this could make people who dont know the series curious.
-
- Well, the reasons for merging pages were various:
-
- 1) After browsing for a while on Wikipedia, I found out that such fan-made pages about books, TV-series or films (particularly when they do not have that many Wikipedian fans) are not very liked by some Wikipedians, especially when they actually make up a cathegory consisting of many smaller articles. Some such pages are even threatened to be deleted, or forced to merge, with deleting many information. So I got scared that this may happen to our Skolian Empire as well someday. Merging little stub-articles into larger ones is in my opinion hopefully a way to avoid this.
-
- 2) Some pages had really very little information (like Triad, ISC, SSRB, Escomm etc.). They were extremely small stand-alone-pages (stubs), which would better suit in a large article, where the text from them looks very good and is more useful. Some of them vere even "orphaned articles" with no links leading to them (Quasis, I think) and are now valid and useful members of a larger article.
-
- 3) Some pages had information that were very similarly repeated on other pages (Dyad - Triad or Aristos - Taskmakers - Providers). Existence of such cross-topic pages lead to the fact that one and the same matter necessarily had to be explained again and again, sometimes even with the same words (Dyad - Triad). I believe it is better for a reader, when he/she can find for example in article "Eubians" everything about Eubian society, military, history etc. The information is in one place, instead of being scattered into several different places which would force a reader to search much longer for the wanted information.
-
- I tried to link every created sub-page so that a reader will jump directly at this sub-article. For example the link to "Aristos" will lead you directly to the sub-article "Aristos" in the main article "Eubians". This way your intention to enable every reader to search out the correct terms should be preserved, I hope. When a person searches directly for a term in Wiki-search, it is of course found immediately, without problems.
