[edit] Iyers

Hullo sir, how do u do? this is with regard to 'Iyers' Wikipedia article. I've just included a reference to the general belief that Iyers migrated to the south from other parts of India. I hope you dont mind. Besides, I also feel that Migrations to Tamil Nadu are more of a legendary character and might be included in 'Origins' rather than 'Migrations'.Also, I dont think references to Mulukanadu are relevant to 'Migrations to Tamil Nadu'.True, a number of Mulukanadu Brahmins have migrated to Tamil Nadu from time to time and are designated as 'Iyers' but then, Mulukanadu Brahmins of Andhra Pradesh like V.V.S.Laxman,etc. are also referred to as Iyers. See List of Iyers.Regards :-) -Ravichandar84 03:42, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately this is only a belief. Many Tamil Brahmins would like to believe this as it gives them a common root with the so called Aryans of North India. Such claims are made by Namboothiris also. I have been searching for some clue or even collective memory about this migration for more than a decade with no success.

The article in Chennai on line is not an authority. This article talks about Gurukkal being the older brahmins. Gurukkals are followers of Saiva Siddhanta which originated in Kashmir in first century B.C. Most of the non-Brahmin forward castes in Tamil Nadu follow Saiva Siddhanta. They can also legitimately claim Kashmiri origin.

Articles in popular especially on line journals and web sites are seldom based on any research. Having evaluated thousands of sites as editor in ODP I am aware of this. For example the web site Kerala Iyers.com has completley ignored the Pandi Iyers.

Please revert to what I had stated. That avoids the inter caste/racial conflicts. Thanks.

About migrations it is a tricky problem. The Tamil Brahmins from Thirunelveli migrated to Nanjil Nadu (present Knayakumari district). When they came in it was Venadu which later became Travancore. Now it is part of Tamil Nadu. So are they migrants? Again how can you migrate to Kerala in 1600 when Kerala was formed only in 1956.

[edit] Devi Mahatmya

Busy in real life. will let you know.--Redtigerxyz 14:34, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Frankly speakly at this stage the article is hardly a B class article. Many things to do.--Redtigerxyz 05:56, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

I only reviewed the lead. I think there is a lot of work to be done. Why did you already archive the peer review? – Ilse@ 07:16, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hello!

Hi Sankarukku! I just saw your wonderful work on Devi Mahatmya. I think if a few more sources dd added to the sourceless sections and if someone gives it a solid copyedit, it will be very close to an FA. Also, when you have the time can please take a look at Hinduism and Ganesha which are the other Hinduism articles that are close to FA. Thanks! GizzaDiscuss © 04:00, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. I have revised some of the sections and standardized the references as suggested.--Sankarrukku 13:04, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Mahakali.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Mahakali.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 06:00, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

copyright tag added.--Sankarrukku 10:07, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Cuttack Chandi.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Cuttack Chandi.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:35, 28 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Corrected.--Sankarrukku 11:53, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Devanagari Font

Hi ! I wanted to ask you which devanagari font you used in Devi Mahatmya?? Thanks. --Redtigerxyz 09:41, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Kali

The Kali images you uploaded are copyrighted and can be used "to illustrate an article discussing the book in question". They can be used only if no public domain images are available. But Kali_Devi.jpg is a PD image. If you find a better PD image; with creator, source and date info; please upload. --Redtigerxyz 12:59, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Both clauses should be met.--Redtigerxyz 06:52, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Dear Sankarrukku, I did not understand what you were trying to convey. If you were comparing the Mahakali image with Kali_Devi.jpg or with Ekamukhi ten-armed Maha-Kali image, you uploaded. The comparsion is wrong. The copyright of the Mahakali img is perfect as it is "Photograph by self of a painting in the Vajreswari temple, Kangra, India". But the other two images you uploaded are book covers ie copyrighted images; copyright is probably held by the publisher or artist. I would not object if PD images or images by self of PD posters etc. are uploaded. Read Wikipedia:Copyrights for more.--Redtigerxyz 06:20, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Also, check. Image:Cuttack Chandi.jpg gives two conflicting copyright tags. You says the uploader is the copyright holder, the other says its 100 yrs old and summary says that creator is unknown.--Redtigerxyz 06:24, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:KaliMaa.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:KaliMaa.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

[edit] Mahakali and Chandi

As long as you ref matter, i am ok with its inclusion. Plz include this ref in Chandi too. Also, i think you can help in expanding the Mahakali article. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 05:02, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Please do not misunderstand. WP says that something that can be challenged should be referenced. It is not a well-known fact that Mahalakshmi temple is dedicated to the Mahalakshmi of the devi mahatmya, but it is supposed that it is dedicated to Lakshmi. see mention of temple in the article Lakshmi, even the Mahalaxmi temple (Kolhapur) link says so and The reason may be the association with Venkateshwara.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 04:58, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
