Does not Sangeet in Sanskrit (or any other Sanskrit-influenced oriental languages like Hindi, Bangla, Nepali, etc.) refer to the general term "music" before anything else? I mean what would you call music in Hindi, for example, if you limited the definition of Sangeet to "singing together?"

i agree. Also, sangeets are not only for ladies - not these days. These days they are often big parties celebrated in the evening with dinner. Generally, all family and close friends (including men) are invited.
