Sang Nila Utama was a prince in an island near Singapore. While trying to get to Singapore, he was caught in a terrible storm and had to throw his crown into the sea to prevent the ship he was on from sinking. He saw a beautiful creature when he reached the island and was entralled by its beauty. He was told by one of his ministers that it was a lion. This was how Singapore got its name "Singapura". It means "Lion City".

How could this be in "History of Malaysia"? It got nothing to do with Malaysia. It's about the naming of Singapore, and the prince was from Sumatra and Riau island (both is now a part of Indonesia). Matahari Pagi 03:28, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- Prior to colonization period, Malaysian, Indonesian and Singaporean histories are practically indistinguishable. In fact, Singapore was part of Malacca and later Johor until 1819. Besides, there is more to Sang Nila Utama than the founding of Singapore. The manuscript that tells teh story of Sang Nila Utama was the Malay Annals, which is central to history of Malaysia. __earth (Talk) 14:31, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
