Sandtown-Winchester is a 72 block neighborhood in West Baltimore. Known as "Sandtown", about 10,300 people reside in this section of West Baltimore. It is bordered by Monroe Street to the West, Pennsylvania Street and Fremont Street to the East, Lafayette Avenue to the South, and North Avenue to the North. It consists of the Pennsylvania and Lexington Markets, and the Baltimore Zoo. Sandtown is known for its problems with violence and crime, which are common. it was Baltimores most dangerous neighborhood in 2005, with 11 homicides. It also had one of the highest infant mortality rates in the nation. In the center of the neighborhood is the infamous Glimor Street, home of the low rise Gilmor Homes. At the North East Border of Sandtown are the McCulloh Homes
