The Sanman Nuclear Power plant is a planned 4-unit reactor for the Zhejiang Province in China. Construction on the first unit is expected to begin in December 2007 and the second, third and fourth units starting through 2009.[1] The first unit will come online in 2012 with the other 3 finishing in 2014 and 2015.
The plant will be notable as the first implementation of the AP1000 reactor developed by Westinghouse. Announcement for construction of this unit comes about a year after the Westinghouse won in bidding for the new reactors over other companies such as General Electric. The contract for the new plant includes both Westinghouse and The Shaw Group (a stake holder in Westinghouse along with Japanese giant Toshiba). The Shaw group will provide engineering, procurement, commissioning, information management and project management services.[2]
