Sandown Classic

The Sandown Classic is a Group 2 Australian thoroughbred horse race held under weight for age conditions, for horses aged 2 years old and upwards, over a distance of 2400 metres. It is held at Sandown Racecourse in Melbourne in November. Prizemoney in 2007 was AUD$400,000.

1888 - 1919 was held over 11 furlongs (2200 m)
1920 - 1942 was held over 12 furlongs (2400 m)
1943 - 1950 was held over 13 furlongs (2600 m)

From 1888 it was known as the Williamstown Cup.
1964 – 1998 was called the Sandown Cup.
1999 onwards it was called the Sandown Classic.
