The San Bernardino Line is the busiest of Southern California's seven Metrolink lines, running from Downtown Los Angeles eastward through the San Gabriel Valley and into the Inland Empire, terminating in San Bernardino. It is also one of the three initial lines (along with the Santa Clarita and Ventura Lines) that formed the original Metrolink system. When the line opened in 1992, service extended only as far as Pomona, but in 1993 the line was extended to San Bernardino. Saturday service was introduced to the line in 1997 and Sunday service was introduced in 1998. The San Bernardino Line serves the following stations:
- Union Station, Los Angeles
- Cal State L.A., Los Angeles (at Cal State LA)
- El Monte, El Monte
- Baldwin Park, Baldwin Park
- Covina, Covina
- Pomona, Pomona
- Claremont, Claremont
- Montclair, Montclair
- Upland, Upland
- Rancho Cucamonga, Rancho Cucamonga
- Fontana, Fontana
- Rialto, Rialto
- San Bernardino, San Bernardino
There are also platforms at Auto Club Speedway, but these are only used for special events.
As of July 2004, a total of 34 trains operate on this route per weekday. It is the first of the seven Metrolink lines to include service on both Saturday and Sunday, operating 20 trains on Saturdays and 12 on Sundays. During weekend service, some trains continue onto the Downtown Riverside Station.
