A view of the northern portion of Santa Monica, California, from the then-landmark Arcadia Hotel, 1893. Two early piers are visible at the bottom left (neither would become the current Santa Monica Pier), the Long Wharf, Santa Monica's attempt to become the port of Los Angeles, is visible in the distance.
