[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:GrantDaNasty.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:GrantDaNasty.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 21:44, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up, I'll take care of it. Samuraiprose

[edit] Characters

This site has different standards that articles must meet; WP:FICT and WP:WAF manage fiction. These require the articles to have real world information back by reliable sources. That cannot happen for a few minor characters, so they belong on a list or in the main article. This is not an arguable point, so please don't try. The only way for those to stay as articles is for you to find the information, and add it. As I said, that cannot happen, so please just leave them. TTN 18:28, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

The amount of information taken from the series has no place in deciding an article's worth. The only factor is real world information, as I said above. If the information will not fit on the main article, it is downsized until it can fit or it is just removed for being trivial. TTN 18:39, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
It is my own observation from having done this quite a few times (The fact that they are minor, not that they need to be redirected, which backed by policies and guidelines). In this case, "minor" is being used to describe their role in the overall spectrum of the series. They don't stick out and they have no real world information to back the need for the articles. Because of that, Trevor belongs on the character list (I didn't preform the redirect on that one, so I didn't see the multiple games), and the other two need to go to their main game.
Sources means something dealing with their overall creation, reception, and real world impact. If something like that isn't readily available for a more recent character like Soma Cruz, it won't be available for these ones. It is just much better to split any relevant information between the main character list, the games, and this movie that you're talking about. TTN 18:58, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
The redirection of characters that don't meet WP:FICT and WP:WAF ("minor) is the preference of this site. We only cover topics that have real world notability. The amount of games they appear in, or the amount of information in those games has no impact on setting up an article.
The information in Trevor Belmont's article is that kind of information. It is good to have that information sourced, but the sources are not actually good in the current context of the article. You would need sources that say "Trevor was designed to look like...", "His personality was based off of...", and "Trevor is one of the most popular..." Those would add information that actually means something. Simon Belmont has more of a possibility, so it is being kept around, but it may be merged if nothing is found eventually. You really shouldn't think of the state of the site like that. If you want a better explanation as to why we need to cover these fictional topics within a larger one, ask Deckiller. He usually provides more detailed responses and is more knowledgeable in general. TTN 19:39, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
