[edit] Error with Navy service description
In the Early life and tragedy section the page refers to Sam Rice fighting in the "ill-fated Battle of Vera Cruz in Mexico". This battle took place in in 1847, 50 years before his birth during the Mexican-American war. Mr. Rice was serving during the Occupation of Vera Cruz in 1914 which was in response to an insurrection taking place in Mexico during that time.

Rhilton4uRhilton4u 05:21, 21 February 2007 (UTC) Rice's correct date appears to be 1889. Incomplete Indiana birth records omit him altogether;he used 1892 birthdate in his draft card (his board apparently did not require verification). A geneological search (on tahe internet portion of the internet) pinpoints the date as 1889, and I feel we should go with that. Rice claimed he was born in 1892 until he made Hall of Fame in 1963 when he said he was actually born in 1890. The "tree" records (when it shows a man to be older) is always correct. I have spotted many changes that way. (Ron Liebman) To Jeff Carroll and who it may concern. My e-mail is ronliebman.stats@yahoo.com.
