[edit] Claim

A Daily Telegraph page claims regarding a Type 45 "Its Samson radar, from its current location in Portsmouth, can monitor all take offs and landings from every major European airport."

[1]

Seems a little exaggerated to me. Surely most of Europe would be well under the horizon... it may be able to track a high altitude aircraft on the other side of Europe, but low level? Unless it has some sort of over the horizon capability?

Worth including?

As a note aside 400km is does not cover most European airports, unless that assumed to be Gatwick, Heathrow and Paris etc. However Frankfurt is much larger. It may however cover quite a lot of Northern European traffic at some point in the route. I suspect is should have been 400mi rather then 400km.
