Samuel Jackman Prescod
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Samuel Jackman Prescod (1806 – September 26, 1871) became the first non-white member of Barbados's Parliament in 1843. He also helped found the Liberal Party, whose following included small landowners, businessmen, and mulatto and black clerks.
Prescod was born as the son of a slave mother, Lidia Smith, and a white father, Wiliam Prescod.
A Barbadian tertiary educational facility is named the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic in his honor.
Prescod is frequently referred to (incorrectly?) as Samuel Jackson Prescod [1].
