Samuel Crawford (actor)

Samuel Crawford (born Samuel Greenhill on the 2nd May, 1987) is a British actor who became known for his regular weekly appearances on London's LBC 97.3FM as "Larry from Catford" and later "Beryl from Laindon". He has also made appearances on "How Clean is Your House?", "Great Food Live" and "Little Brother's Big Brother" (in which he proposed to contestant, Lesley Brain. As a voice actor; he has created many characters for radio and television. Crawford has impersonated Margaret Thatcher, providing voice-overs for "The Fall of the Iron Lady" and a series of commercials. He was consulted on voice technique for "Thatcher: The Musical" and appeared on "100 Greatest Eighties Moments" discussing the Thatcher impressions of Steve Nallon and Janet Brown.

Larry originally was a parody of a caller to the Iain Lee radio show called Barry from Watford but the calls became more regular and the two characters became very different. The character was originally based in Catford but moved to Steeple Bumstead. Similarly, the calls themselves moved from the Clive Bull programme to the Bill Buckley programme. Larry (full name Larry Boggis) is apparently an elderly gentleman who is in his late eighties. Originally married to Maureen, he has had a variety of relationships ranging from a transsexual Liechtensteiner to a home help called Phyllis. In 2006, the calls stopped and Larry was revealed to be a character caller but in February 2007, Larry re-appeared apparently based in the Philippines and dating a woman called Imelda (which judging by the patter is actually former First Lady Imelda Marcos).

On May 21st 2008, Crawford unveiled a new character on the internet media site YouTube[1] 'Vesta Bules' who first appeared in a tribute video to US drag artist Wanda Wisdom. Crawford now performs the character in local cabaret clubs in the Essex area. Vesta is a brash Essex mother who was formerly First Lady of North Korea.
