Samobor castle

Only 10 minutes from the city centre lies one of the most beautiful but also most neglected medieval castles in Croatia. Castle is build in gothic style with round towers and high walls - there are still visible remains of the moat, the masive entrance and most of the walls still standing. The castle was first constructed about the 1270 by the czech forces of king Ottokar II of Bohemia who was than in the war with hungarian king Stephen V. Croatian-hungarian forces of knez of Okić near the Samobor soon retook the castle and knez of Okić was granted city of Samobor and also the privilege to colect taxes.
