Coordinates: Samastipur (hi:समस्तीपुर) is a city and a municipality in Samastipur district in the Indian state of Bihar. It is headquarters of the Samastipur district.

Samastipur is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 39 metres (127 feet).
It is situated on the banks of Budhi Gandak and Ganges River.

As of 2001 India census[2], Samastipur had a population of 55,590. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Samastipur has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 66%. In Samastipur, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.

There were several well known leaders from Samastipur district, who had occupied ministerial post in the Government of India. Among them includes Baliram Bhagat and Karpuri Thakur, a product of the 70's JP Movement who later rose to become the Chief Minister of Bihar. He was also resident of Samastipur district. His native place is Karpuri Gram, earlier known as Pitaunjhia. Some other known personalities from Samastipur are Vidyapati And Bihar Kokila singer Sarda Sinha. Ramnath thakur (son of Karpuri Thakur ) is land revenue minister in Bihar government.

Samastipur also holds Railway sub division of East Central Railway. There were several small industries which includes Sugar Factory, Paper Mill, Jute Mill and Railway Factory.
Samastipur is rich in agriculture, because of its fertile plain. Tobacco, maize, rice and wheat are the main crops. Leechi and mango fruits are grown in abundance. The major population is very hard working. People with high class mentality and a desire to do something in life. there are many freedom fighter like rajendra prasad, karpuri thakur,jai prakash narayan lalit narayan gaya prasad sharma etc.

The main festival of the district is Chhat Puja & saraswati pooja vasant pooja which is celebrated after the festival of Diwali. Thaneshwar Temple is a very famous temple of Lord Shiva, and is situated at the heart of the city.

Education facilities in the district are at minimum, which includes some colleges like SMRCK COLLEGE,Samastipur College, BRB College, RNR College, women's college,J N V. There is no professional college in the district. But this district possess a very reputed Agricultural University in Pusa. Well known as Rajendra Agricultural University[3].Nowadays there are so many good C.B.S.E board affiliated schools like Kendriya Vidyalaya,Navodaya Vidyalaya,Holy mission high school,central public school etc.These schools are on par with the requiremets of students.

[edit] Vidyapatinagar
The place, situated in Dalsinghsarai block near the bank of River Ganges, is named after the most revered Maithili poet Vidyapati. It is believed to be the place where the renowned Poet breathed his last in search of Lord Shiva. As the myth goes, Lord Shiva was associated with him since long in the guise of his servant named Ugna. It is said that he wanted to breath his last at the banks of Ganges and was travelling towards it. But due to his failing health, he was not able to reach the banks of Ganges and so the river changed its course to reach him. There is a big old temple of Lord Shiva known as Vidyapati Dham in commemoration of the same.

Pusa block is world famous for Rajendra Agriculture University. PUSA is named after Mr. Henry Phipps from USA who donated the money to establish agricultural research institute . Pusa also has Indian agriculture research institute and Sugar cane institute.

The village, situated about 35 km southwest of Laheriasarai of Darbhanga district, contains an old Shiva temple that was built in 1844. A fair is held here every year on the eve of Ramnavami.
Malinagar is birth place of famous novel writer Babu Devki Nandan Khatri and eminent educationist and scholar Dr. Ram Surat Thakur.

It is situated at a distance of 14 km from Hasanpur block of Samastipur near Dudhpura. Dudhpura is the nick name of ancient Budhpura, which was named after Lord Buddha who happened to stay there and preached Buddhism for some time while going round the country. He stayed there at the request of King Mangaldeo. Remains of his fort have been discovered here.
[edit] Jageshwar Asthan
It is an old Shiva temple in Bibhutipur village situated about 15 km from Narhan Railway station. There is also a magnificent old Building of Narhan Estate, which has been very prominent in this area since the Mughal period. One Jageshwari Devi, daughter of Bhaw Mishra, the Vaidya of Narhan Estate, as it is said, constructed the temple.

Dalsingsarai is a sub-division of Samastipur district,connected by NH-28(Guwahati-Raxaul) & main railway line East Central Railway (Barauni-Samastipur) passing through town. The sweet dish called *RASKADAM is popular in Dalsinghsarai.also popular in karela & hari saag."bel" of pagara. village is very popular. a rising town in bihar. historic village pand deeh is situated hee. its soil is talent rich. has the credit of producing IIT AIR (1).

It is situated at a distance of about 500 meters from Musrighrari main market beside of NH 28. Bakhribuzurg is rich in agriculture, because of its fertile plain. Tobacco, maize, rice and wheat are the main crops.
DIGAMBRA(KHUDI RAM BOSE PUSA
Digambra is the famous Rajputs village situated at 1km from the Khudi Ram Bose Pusa railway station on the main line muzaffarpur-samastipur.The name digambra came from the digambarnath (Shiva incarnation).Famous digambarnath temple is situated in this village,it is said that digambarnath born their direct from the lap of earth and establishes himself in the heart of village.on the day of basant panchami,a very large fair observed there,also it gets it charm on mahashivratri.the famous lawyer Sri tribhuvan singh's family is the custodian of that temple.
