Sam Steiger

Sam Steiger (born March 10, 1929) is a U.S. Republican politician.
He was born in New York City. He served in the Korean War, where he earned the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. He was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives from Arizona and served from January 3, 1967 to January 3, 1977. He did not seek re-election to the House in 1976, instead running for the United States Senate, and was defeated by Dennis DeConcini. In 1982 he ran for governor on the Libertarian Party ticket and received five percent of the vote. He currently resides in Prescott, Arizona, where he served as Mayor from 1999-2001.
