Saiyuki Reloaded (最遊記RELOAD?) is a manga series by Kazuya Minekura, adapted into a 25 episode anime tv series of the same name and it is the second premise of the Saiyuki saga. The sequel to Saiyuki Reloaded is Saiyuki Reload Gunlock (最遊記RELOAD GUNLOCK?), which is described in its own article. A prequel OVA called Saiyuki Reloaded: Burial was released in April 2007

The storyline of Saiyuki continues, and follows the adventures of Priest Genjyo Sanzo, Son Goku, Cho Hakkai and Sha Gojyo as they maintain their westward journey to stop the resurrection of the demon Gyumaoh. As the reputation of the Sanzo party precedes them, they continue to fight demon assassins at every turn, but they must also deal with increasing tensions within their group in order to defeat a powerful enemy.

[edit] Manga

Currently, the series has 8 volumes released in Japan. In Singapore, Chuang Yi has released the first 7 volumes in Chinese and English. In the U.S. Tokyopop has released the first 7 volumes in English, with volume 8 scheduled for release in June 2008.

[edit] Burial Arc

This story arc takes place in the past, and offers a view of the Saiyuki quartet before their formation. It is covered in volumes 3 & 4 of the manga. Studio Pierrot has adapted this arc into a 3 episode OVA.

[edit] Anime

The anime series, while faithful to the manga, strays off in the first 13 episodes with filler and picks up again in the next episode with minor changes and then finishes the season with the God Arc, which happens to be the last part of the original Saiyuki manga.

Released in Japan on March 18, 2004, a roleplaying game from Bandai sends you off on a quest starring the characters Genjo Sanzo, Son Goku, Sha Gojyo and Cho Hakkai from the Japanese anime of the same name. You actually play as an original character being prepared just for the game and are allowed to adventure with the four heroes. You command the four in menu-based battles that allow for attacks, special attacks and combination attacks. The game tells a completely original story, and as a bonus Bandai will be including a Saiyuki Reloaded voice CD for those who preorder.
