Saint-Gilles, QC

Saint-Gilles is a community of nearly 2000 in the province of Québec. It neighbors the Beaurivage River and is alongside Route 269. It is named after the first Seigneur of Beaurivage, Gilles Rageot. This town was founded in 1828. The town came bankrupt and nearly closed, but as stubborn as they were, the citizens did not leave their homes. After a short period of time, the Dionne brothers, in great generosity, gave a sum of their fortune to erace the debpt of the town. The town remained open since then.
In 2003, the town celebrated the 175th anniversary of the foundation of the village. In this occasion, a great plan of urbanism was being made by city hall. The city authorities embelish the town, create an industrial parc, a municipal parc. Also, since 1973, Saint-Gilles has acquired an arena. In 2008, it will host its 25th annual provincial minor hockey league tournament : Tournoi Elico.
