SACD HD is Sony's printed name for the HD layer on SACDs in the recent PlayStation 3 press releases. It appears when Sony released the specifications for the PlayStation 3 it indicated that there are two layers, the 'HD' layer, and the regular Redbook layer. It appears that SACD HD is the same as SACD. The only difference being the added HD term behind the familiar SACD, making the new term SACD HD. Sony added this to indicate the high fidelity of the SACD HD DSD layer, seeing that the term HD has already established a place in consumers' perception of high quality.
