[edit] Hello

Ratnakumar, I noticed that you've been making good contributions to Thirukkural and Thiruvalluvar. I wanted to point out that it would be a good idea to add inline citations (see WP:CITE) to many of those edits. For example, claims about Thiruvalluvar's religion and influence of Sanskrit (or lack of) need to be cited inline. I also noticed that you've added your interpretation of some famous couplets - I think it should be deleted, since wikipedia forbids original research. Welcome aboard and please continue your good work ! Lotlil 14:53, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Taken note. Thank you and, I have deleted my interpretations and will comply with your idea of inline citations. Please note: My interpretation is from my research/book that was published. However, the interpretations of First couplet, Last couplet, and some famous couplets that apear under Thirukkural are also interpretations done by various people (on the basis of their published books/research). Don't they, too, violate Wikipedia's rule original research? Wonder if you could clarify this please!—Preceding unsigned comment added by S.Ratnakumar (talkcontribs)
I see, I didn't realize you were quoting yourself from a published source. Wow !! Original research only refers to adding one's own viewpoints, which are unpublished elsewhere, to wikipedia. Yours, on the other hand, is a genuine scenario. Please see WP:COS: apparently, you only need to write in third person and cite your publication. In general, wikipedia requires us to source our edits from secondary sources.
In any case, I'm glad to see a knowledgeable editor working on Tamil articles. Please also take a look at Tamil literature and other related articles. I'm sure your contributions would make them better. Thanks. Lotlil 01:47, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the clarification. I, realy, appreciate it.

[edit] Trolling

Hi: I don't know if you noticed the disruptive trolling on Thirukkural article, just wanted to make sure you don't get intimidated by all that. Some vandals don't understand what it means to be civil, especially towards productive new editors like you. Please ignore them. I know you've added enough references in the footnotes, but please cite them inline. Also, please make sure you paraphrase what is being said in your sources. Happy editing. 22:51, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your note. Please, let me know if I am going out-of-line!!

If you plan to actively improve the article in the next few days, you can replace all those bogus tags with this one tag: "underconstruction" (within double braces), so you won't be bothered by vandals interfering with your work. Lotlil 01:11, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your suggestion and support. However, I think it would be a good idea to leave the article as it is for a moment (perhaps a week or two), let them (vandals) have a go at it.

It is real pitty, Wikipedia cannot weed the vandals out!!

Yes, vandals are a problem right now: the drive-by anonymous kind isn't a big deal, but the resident ones pretending to be good-faith editors are an issue. In any case, just keep contributing, eventually they will run out of steam, they always do. I have a few suggestions about the formatting of the text, some content to remove etc. Will leave a note on the article talk page in a couple of days. Have to go now. Lotlil 01:52, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Point taken. Thanks, once again. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by S.Ratnakumar (talkcontribs) 02:01:55, August 18, 2007 (UTC).

Please do not add content without citing reliable sources, as you did to [[:Tirukkural, Thiruvalluvar]]. Before making potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources please take this opportunity to add your original reference to the article. Contact me if you need assistance adding references. Thank you. I've already requested you more than once not to add your original research to the articles you edit. Refrain from doing it. Thanks. Sarvagnya 05:47, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your "advice". Please refer to the talk page on Thirukkural Regards S.Ratnakumar 06:11, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
