[edit] History

The SS was built at the General Motors factory in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The SS was introduced in 1994. Fewer than 3000 SS's were produced yearly on the average. When introduced, the SS was sold in only three colors, Onyx Black, Summit White, and Apple Red.

The SS version was discontinued in 1998. In 1999, it was replaced by the S10 Xtreme.

[edit] Model specifications

The SS version primarily had a larger engine than the basic S10 model. Basic models had engines as small as the 2.2 liter 4-cylinder engine. Very few SS version had this engine, but some did (ie: collectors edition). A 4.3 liter V6 (which was optional on regular S10s) was primarily used in the SS version producing between 180 and 195 hp, higher than the output of other trucks in its class.

The Super Sport S10 included lowered suspension, cosmetic changes such as a different grille, body-colored bumpers, 16" wheels, and other sporty touches. Most SS versions were basic cab models, while a few collector editions were produced with the extended cab, and the "3rd door". (see 98_s10_ss.jpg in "external links" below).
