Sùßkind = Sùsskind, NOT Suezkind

[edit] Blood

Does anyone know the theories concerning the blood in the Codex Manesse picture? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnbod (talkcontribs) 16:57, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

The codex was collated in Zurich between 1300 and 1330 and illustrated by various artists. Süßkind's picture was crafted by one of the "additional painters" in his usual manner. The "provocation" (to many, to his day) lies in the very fact that the Jewish minstrel is treated exactly like all the other poets in the collection - not in a hidden "Süßkind-code". • I mean the blood clearly coming down his face and onto his cape, apparently from a head-wound. Johnbod (talk) 14:17, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
  • I read it as a purple string, tied underneath Süßkind's chin, to keep his "Judenhut" in place. Fuxmann (talk) 15:59, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Hmm! I hadn't thought of that. It looks like blood to me - the gestures of the other figures are rather confrontational. Johnbod (talk) 18:09, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
