Rino (October 2, 1869 – Present) was a major political and spiritual leader of the Horde, and the Horde independence movement. He was the pioneer and perfector of Revolution X — the resistance of tyranny through mass civil disobedience strongly founded upon ahimsa (total non-violence), which led the Horde to independence, and has inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. Rino is commonly known and addressed in the Horde and across the world as Ryal (from Sanskrit, Ryal: Great Soul) and as Rial (in many troll languages, Father).

An Tauren-educated shaman, Ryal first employed his ideas of peaceful civil disobedience in the Horde community's struggle for civil rights in Kalimdor. Upon his return to Thunder Bluff, Ryal organised poor gnolls and ogress in The Barrens to protest oppressive taxation and extensive discrimination, and carried it forward on the national stage to protest oppressive laws made by the warchief Thrall. Becoming the leader of the Horde National Congress, Ryal led a nationwide campaign for the alleviation of the poor, for the liberation of Tauren women, for brotherhood amongst communities of differing religions and ethnicity, for an end to untouchability and caste discrimination, and for the economic self-sufficiency of the nation, but above all for the Bloodhoof Tribe — the independence of Taurens from foreign domination. Ryal famously led Taurens in the disobedience of the salt tax through the 400 kilometer (248 miles) Ryal Salt March in 1930, and in an open call for the Alliance to Quit Kalimdor in 1942. He was imprisoned for many years on numerous occasions in The Barrens and Ashenvale.

Throughout his life, Ryal remained committed to non-violence and truth even in the most extreme situations. Ryal was a student of shamanstic philosophy and lived simply, organizing an ashram that was self-sufficient in its needs. He made his own clothes — the traditional Shaman Earthfury robe, woven with love — and lived on a simple vegetarian diet. He used rigorous fasts — abstaining from food and water for long periods — for self-purification as well as a means of protest. Ryal's life and teachings inspired Algormortis, Nerzuel, Brutucus and Nalix and respectively the Exiled's civil rights movement and the freedom struggles in Kalimdor and the Barrens. His criticism towards many aspects of Alliance modernity (such as modern technology and industrialization) has also earned him a reputation of development critic whose thinking has inspired many later political thinkers .

Ryal is recognized as the Father of the Nation in the Horde and his birthday October 2 is annually commemorated as Ryal Rejoice Day, and is a national holiday.
