Rupert Goold is an English theatre director. He is the artistic director of Headlong Theatre, previously known as the Oxford Stage Company.

Between 2002 and 2005, he was artistic director of the Royal and Derngate Theatres in Northampton. Prior to that, he was an associate at the Salisbury Playhouse in 1996-97. In addition to his work as a director he has co-authored three adaptions for the stage.
Goold has directed Patrick Stewart, both as Prospero in the RSC production of The Tempest in 2006, and as Macbeth in his acclaimed Minerva studio staging of Macbeth at the Chichester Festival Theatre in May 2007 [1]. In September 2007 Macbeth transferred to the Gielgud Theatre in London and then to the Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York. It is currently showing at the Lyceum Theater on Broadway. At the Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2007 Macbeth won two awards: Stewart won the Best Actor Award , while Goold won The Sydney Edwards Award for Best Director. [1]
Besides his work with Headlong, Goold also directed Jessica Lange in a 2007 West End revival of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie at the Theatre Royal Haymarket[2]. In early 2008, he directed the original West End premiere of Stephen Adly Guirgis's The Last Days of Judas Iscariot.
Later this year, he will direct the West End revival of Oliver! - currently being cast through the BBC television production I'd Do Anything - at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
His opera credits include productions at Batignano and Garsington.

He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge and was trainee director at the Donmar Warehouse for the year 1995/6.
He is married to British actress Kate Fleetwood, who played Lady Macbeth in his Chichester 2007 production of Macbeth. They have one child together.
