Auburn = Runningback U? I don't think so: http://footballguys.com/shick_rbu.htm --unsigned edit by 74.226.61.240 (11:53, March 25, 2007)
- Well, I see your link to one article which calls Nebraska Runningback U (which is interesting because you redirect the page to USC?), but to be fair, I don't think that eliminates Auburn to ever be called Runningback U - especially considering I can provide hundreds of articles that use Runningback U to refer to Auburn. Perhaps the page should no longer be a redirect and instead list the schools, their runningbacks, draft history/legacy, links to each schools football page, etc. If nothing else, this would prevent fans from reverting eachother (which it seems is where this might be heading) and instead help to build a quality article - and for the record, I do think Nebraska, Miami and no doubt several other schools all have claims but just do not know enough to write a detailed article including them. When I created this page, I included some text and references to start an article, but ended up just redirecting (per Tailback U) as it would have been crappy). But again, just so the USC fans stop saying nobody uses Runningback U to refer to Auburn except Auburn fans, a quick websearch turned up several articles in top10 so either they weren't looking or were actively hiding from these: realfootball365, pressboxonline, rivals, writeonsports, collegefootballnews, southeastcollegesports...even Auburn's coach refers to the school with the term. And I think it is a fair claim - Auburn has 15 runningbacks drafted over the last 20 years (1987-2007 where I counted Kenny Irons who is a likely 1st or 2nd round pick in 2007), not to mention the 5-6 others who were picked up as undrafted free-agents. Again, I think the page should have references to Auburn, Nebraska, Miami, etc - per the arguments seen elsewhere.[1] Remember though, this article is about "Runningback U" and not "Tailback U" (most often used to reference So California), so a legacy of fullbacks as well as tailbacks should be a criteria. I always thought it was Auburn="Runningback U", Penn State="Linebacker U", Miami="Quarterback U", USC="Tailback U" and each school's football page each make these claims (and only these). This is why I was reverting the changes originally (until I saw someone finally used the talk page) - ie since USC page never mentions RU, Miami page never claimed RU, etc. otduff (talk/contribs) 11:32, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Just saw another interesting draft article at Sports Illustrated that talks about Auburn as the "premiere running back factory". I figured I would add it here.
