Rumley, Arkansas

Rumley (zip code 72645) is an unincorporated community in Van Buren County, Arkansas, United States. It was founded in 1866 by Henry Rumley. Rumley consisted of a series of small homes, a general store and for the large part had a self-sustaining agrarian economy. As many towns were in its day, Rumley was situated along railroad tracks. Trains would periodically stop and provide dry goods and mail to the local store.

Van Buren County was created on 11 November 1833 and was formed from Independence, Clark and Izard Counties. The rugged landscape is conducive to subsistence agriculture and the Little Red River runs through its boundaries. The seat of government is located at Clinton. Today, Van Buren County is known for containing a portion of Greers Ferry Lake, a tourist destination. Van Buren County is bordered by Searcy County (north), Stone County (northeast), Cleburne County (east), Faulkner County (southeast), Conway County (southwest), Pope County (west). Cities, Towns & Communities include Clinton, Damascus, Fairfield Bay, Shirley, Alread, Archey Valley, Austin, Bee Branch, Botkinburg, Chimes, Choctaw, Choctaw Pines, Claude, Copeland, Crabtree, Culpepper, Dabney, Dennard, Eglantine, Elba, Fairbanks, Formosa, Gravesville, Gravel Hill, Green Tree, Half Moon, Morganton, Old Botkinburg, Palisades, Pee Dee, Plant, Pleasant Grove, Rabbit Ridge, Rex, Rocky Hill, Rumley, Rupert, Scotland, Southside, Stumptoe, Sulphur Springs, Walnut Grove, Whipple, Woodlum, Zion Hill Parts of Van Buren County was used to form the following counties: Cleburne 1883, Stone 1873. Other county boundary changes occurred when Boundaries defined 14 November 1836, part annexed to Pope County on 12 January 1853, lines with Searcy and Marion defined 20 January 1855, line with Pope County defined 17 February 1859.
