Ruben Ochoa

Ruben Ochoa (born 1974, Oceanside, CA, U.S.) is an artist who lives and works in Los Angeles.

Ochoa studied at the Parsons School of Art and Design, New York, the Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles (BFA, 1997), and the University of California, Irvine (MFA, 2003).


He was included in the Whitney Biennial 2008 at the Whitney Museum of American Art.


The work of Ruben Ochoa includes sculpturing, installation and photography. His subjects mainly refer to the urban surrounding of Los Angeles: the tension between social classes, culture, urban architecture and nature. He mostly uses basic building materials like rebar and concrete.


His work was recently shown in solo exhibitions at LAXART in Los Angeles, and at Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center, Buffalo, NY. He was awarded a 2005 Creative Capital Grant for his Freeway Wall Extraction project, and he was featured in the 2004 California Biennal at the Orange County Museum of Art.
