Royal Air Force Police also has specialised role of Close Protection. Mainly served in Northern Ireland to protect the Senior Royal Air Force Officer in province(SRAFONI}) RAFP now work worldwide and sometrimes closely with RMP.

Well, it's not actually incorrect. The RAFP training school certainly was at RAF Newton in the 1980s. It may just have moved several times before that. -- Necrothesp 01:15, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

During the 1980's only Police dogs and handlers were at Newton as per display info (RAF Hemlow Air Show), I have a former colleague who undrtook his training at St Athan at the same time. --Pandaplodder 14:07, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

I have had to alter a reference to dogs attaining a rank of Cpl. Not sure where this has come about from, and tbh I have never hjeard of it before. Entry changed to that dogs are know as AirDog then their name as per display info from 2006. This may need watching as a edit war may break out on this.--Pandaplodder 14:07, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

As a serving RAF Policeman, I can confirm that AirDog's can attain ranks and infact may outrank their handlers.

I also can confirm this. In the early 70's at Akrotiri, Cyprus the Station Mascot, "Sirius" a Pyrenian Mountain Dog held the rank of Sgt and was a member of the Sgt's Mess. He was on the strenght of the Dog Section and his handler was a F/Sgt.

? How can the RAFP crest be added to this page? It's important as the RAFP are the only Trade in the RAF to be granted a crest by HM The King in 1946. SteveLamacraft 08:18, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RAF Police - worldwide

This article needs expanding as it is very light on information about the RAF Police role in the UK, but expecially in operations around the world. I can't comment on every location but there was a small contingent, of which I was a part, at RAF Dharan when the base was bombed, surely these important events, which the RAF Police were a part, are worthy of inclusion? [edit] Dog Ranks

Air Dogs have both rank and service number which are all recorded in a dogs service book. But in fact only Station Mascots (retired dogs) normally have ranks above Air Dog.

Back in the 70's HM Customs & Excise handlers were trained by the RAF Police and the dog inspector for Customs & Excise Dog was a serving RAF Police Flight Sergeant. RAF Police truly lead the world in training dogs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.146.65.143 (talk) 14:26, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
