[edit] History
Royse City was settled in 1885. It was named after its founder R.G. Royse. Around 1886, Mr. Royse platted the town site and sold the first lot to Alf Reese and his nephew Albert Royse. About that same time, Mr. Royse was instrumental in getting the MK&T Railroad line brought from Greenville to Dallas through Rockwall County. Family legend has it that Mr. Royse informed the MK&T Railroad people that he would donate the land for a train station if they would call it Royse City. It has always preserved its stable small country town status thanks to its close proximity to Garland (21.3 miles) and Dallas (33.5 miles). [1]
Royse City, like the rest of Rockwall County, has experienced phenomenal growth in recent years. This is due to the rapid growth of the Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex and to its location on Interstate 30 between Rockwall and Greenville.
In 2006, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) estimated a population of 7,350 people for Royse City. The city added an estimated 1,950 people during 2006, growing from 7,350 people to 9,300 people as of Jan. 1, 2007. This is a growth rate of 26.53 percent.
