Royal High School (often called simply "Royal" and abbreviated as "RHS") is one of two major public high schools in Simi Valley, California. Other public high schools in Simi Valley include Simi Valley High School, Santa Susana High School (a magnet school for technology and performing arts), and Apollo High School (a continuation school). The two main high schools, Royal and Simi, are rivals and always have huge turnouts for their yearly "Simi Royal" football game. Royal is part of the Simi Valley Unified School District and is located on Simi Valley's west side. Royal High School is a California Distinguished School and the recipient of a Digital High School Technology Grant. Royal's school colors are green and gold, and their mascot is the Highlander.
Royal opened in 1968 but did not have a graduating class until 1970, because the class of 1969 was not divided up and remained at Simi Valley High School. Royal opened up with only sophomores and juniors. Freshman, at that time, were part of the junior high system.

Royal's boys volleyball team has won many CIF and league titles. Royal's league winning streaks include, 66 straight matches from 1989-1994, 66 straight matches from 1994-1999, and 168 consecutive games in league play from 1989-1994. Royal won 14 consecutive League championships from 1989-2002 and are the current league champions again in 2008. In the 20 years of royal's program, they have acheived 4 CIF championships.

Royal's Cross Country team has won many state and league titles, often competing with Thousand Oaks High School. Recent Royal High School accomplishments include:
- 2006: Broke course record at Woodbridge Invitational, Second in California, Second in Nation
- 2005: Broke course record at Woodbridge and Mt. Sac Invitational, First in California, Sixth in Nation
- 2004: First in California, Fourth in Nation
- 2003: Boys State D1 runner-ups
- 2001: Boys State D1 runner-ups

Royal Wrestling has won league championships in 1974, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1993, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. They were CIF Division 5 Dual meet Champions twice in a row in 2005 and 2006, and they were Division 2 CIF semi-finalists in 2007. They have a 4 year dual meet record of 49-4 as of the season ending in 2007. Royal wrestling has been one of the top teams in Ventura County History. The wrestling team has now accomplished a Marmonte league first, as their varsity won league for the fifth time in a row in 2008.

The Royal High School Drama Program is known for its performances. With recent shows, You Can't Take It With You, "Bye Bye Birdie", "Footloose, "40 Thieves, "42nd Street", A Midsummer Night's Dream and its recent production of "The Wiz". Every year there are two shows, a straight acting play in the fall and a musical in the spring. The Royal High Players Improv Group also have one or two performances. The documentary series, Till Graduation is dedicated to its drama department these past two years.

Royal High School supports various clubs around campus. Some clubs focus on politics. For example, Royal has a Pro-Democrats club, which debates political issues. A majority of the club supports the presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama. This club has made a political statement on aspirations to vote for citizens under the age of 18. In addition, Royal is home to one of the few Communist Clubs. The club discusses various issues such as the successes, failures, and types of Communism throughout the world.
Royal also has various clubs that take interest in the environment. The Recycle Club addresses the school's waste management. The club hopes to make Royal an efficient school by recycling material to supplement the school's budget. Royal also has a Save the Penguins club. This club tries to understand the effects of global warming, and methods in saving the Arctic life affected by environmental changes.
