[edit] History
Much of what is now Roxburgh Park was formerly used as agricultural land and Roxburgh Park was only developed by the Urban Land Corporation in 1992 (not unlike the new towns in green wedges of Britain). The commercial hub of the suburb is located on Somerton Road (highways 35 and 58).
As of 2005 development has progressed, with the construction of more child care centres, a retirement village, Islamic mosque, as well as improvement of roads. The railway station opened on 30 September 2007.
Most of Roxburgh Park's fame came with widely screened TV commercials throughout the mid-1990s, presenting Roxburgh Park's avowed virtues as a planned community with a balance of residential, industrial and reserves (part of the Shanklands Reserve is in the south of Roxburgh Park), as well as community services and access to transport.
Also, Roxburgh Park is famous for many of the beautiful and graceful River Red Gums which came from a flood over a hundred years ago[citation needed], when the area that is now Roxburgh Park and Craigieburn was flood plains from the nearby Merri Creek.
The Broadmeadows Valley Trail makes its way through the suburb, in a north south direction.
[edit] Education and Commerce
Roxburgh Park has 4 primary schools: Roxburgh Rise Primary School [1], Roxburgh Homestead Primary School, Good Samaratain Catholic School and Roxburgh Park Primary School) and a high school (Roxburgh College, which was the old Upfield High School). Roxburgh Park also has a Catholic school - the Good Samaritan Catholic School. Two large shopping centres are located within the suburb. The one on Somerton Road is a general department store, whereas the Roxburgh Plaza and Homemaker Centre is on Pascoe Vale Road, near Hungry Jacks and the Roxburgh Park Hotel. Also there is the Roxburgh Homestead Shopping Centre, close to the Roxburgh Homestead Primary School.
