The Rothschilds played no role in America? On the contrary, they helped set up the United States Federal Reserve Banking system with the help of the Warburg brothers and Jacob Schiff, and remain shareholders to this day. The origin of the name Rothschild should be added. It could be translated as "red shield" and it sounds distinctly lordish. I could imagine that the name was awarded, since one of their ancestors was a general etc. Smallchanges 21:28, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

I believe that the red shield was merely a sign outside Mayer Amschel's premises in Germany. He took the name because people referred to his business as the red shield. Bill Still explains the details in his documentary film "The Money Masters". ReggyRaccoon 12:30, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
