Ross Fitzgerald
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ross Fitzgerald is an Australian historian, novelist and political commentator. Professor of History and Politics at Brisbane's Griffith University, he was also the Queensland Chair of the Centenary of Federation.
He has published over 20 books, including a two-volume history of Queensland. His other books include works of fiction, a book on the politics of Australian Rules Football (he is well known to be a passionate Collingwood Magpies supporter) and a provocative novel titled "Soaring", which won an "erotic writing" award.
In September of 2007, he was the subject of considerable controversy after it was revealed that the Beattie Queensland state Labor government had awarded him a controversial $900,000 deal to write a history of Queensland. The process was not opened up for public tender by other historians, resulting in claims of nepotism along with criticism of his research skills.
