A Mid-Westerner, Ms. Watson lived in Highland, Indiana until the age of 14. From an early age she was surrounded with music and drama. Her mother was a church organist, a performer and an educator teaching up to 40 students during the week in the family home. Their house, which was filled with an assortment of musical instruments, was also the subject of field trips for local school children. Ms. Watson performed with her mother's classical trio from the age of 14. Following her parents divorce, she finished high school and two years of college in Florida, majoring in Theatre. Eager to hit the big time, she moved to New York where she continued studying acting with Ron Stetson (The Neighborhood Playhouse). In 1989, she moved to Los Angeles and took a scene study course with Stella Adler, whose caustic style quickly helped the young woman discover she wanted "out of the business". She practiced massage therapy for several years and went back to school earning a BA in Psychology from UCLA (1995).
Certain she would leave her performance roots behind and find a job in social services, she began submitting resumes to non-profit organizations. To earn money in the interim, a friend asked if she wanted to answer phones at a television production company that was around the corner from her LA apartment. She took the job at Fisher-Merlis TV which produced how-to shows for HGTV. Shortly thereafter while doodling with some paint pens, producer Eleanor ('ele') Sampson, asked what kind of art background Rosemary had and if she would be interested in working as a set coordinator and props builder for "Your Home, with Kitty Bartholomew". Without missing a beat, she signed on. She then made her television debut as a guest designer on the spin-off show "Ask Kitty". Other guest appearances followed on The Christopher Lowell Show and Willard Scott's Home & Garden Almanac. She became a segment host for Awesome Interiors (HGTV) and was approached by both Discovery and HGTV to do her own show.
