Ronald David Mackay was appointed a Senator of the College of Justice in 1997. He graduated from the University of St Andrews with an MA and from the University of Edinburgh with an LLB. He bacem an Advocate in 1972.

From 1979 to 1982 he was an official of the Court of Justice of the European Communities. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1986 and served as an Advocate Depute from 1986 to 1990.

He is a judge of the Inner House.
