The match was played on "Republicii" Stadium (now Lia Manoliu). Although Dinamo attacked repeatedly in the first half hour, Metalul Resita's striker Ştefan Szeleş scored twice (30th and 40th minute) from two fast counter-attacks. Dinamo were unable to get back into the match and Metalul's players held their ground for a memorable victory.
