Roman Catholic Diocese of Kannur

Pope John Paul II has created the Diocese of Kannur by bifurcating the Diocese of Calicut on December 09, 1998. The new Diocese consists of revenue districts of Kannur and Kasaragod.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Varghese Chakkalakal was appointed as the First Bishop by the Holy See on Feb. 07, 1999.
