Description
English: A photograph of Rome, Georgia in 1864, during the occupation by Union forces in the U.S. Civil War, according to Dave Larson's web site.

Dave Larson's description also says that the river in the foreground is the Oostanaula. However, the photo appears to show a 90-degree bend, which would make it unlikely, since the only such bend occurs at the confluence of the Oostanaula and Etowah rivers forming the Coosa river, and there would be no vantage point of sufficient height for this photo. Therefore, it may be the Etowah in the foreground, with the Oostanaula on the left, having been taken from atop Myrtle Hill. In this case, the Coosa would be just off the left side of the photo, and the bridge would be about where the Second Ave. bridge is located.

Since the photo is over 140 years old, it is in the public domain, since the photographer must have died at least 70 years ago.
