Roland Octapad was a range of MIDI percussion controllers produced by the Roland Corporation.
[edit] Roland Pad-80
The second model was the Pad-80 Octapad II. Again the Pad-80 was an eight pad MIDI controller that allowed you to play various types of MIDI sound sources.[1].There was a few improvements to this second model including the larger memory that could store up to 64 different patches. Another 64 patches could be stored onto a Roland M-256E memory card. [2]. Further improvements to the MIDI specification included the control of modulation, pitch bend and aftertouch using a foot pedal.[3]. The Pad-80 had a patch chain function that allowed a series of 32 patches to be arranged in any sequence, eight of these chains could be stored in memory.[4].
Roland later released their SPD range which were similar to the Octapad range but included on board sounds and effects.
