Roger Dudman

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roger Alan Dudman was the Labour mayor of Oxford (UK) between 1985 and 1986, succeeding the Conservative Frank Arnold Garside. Labour would remain in office until 1988, when the rather splendidly named Nellie Dorothy ("Queenie") Whorley (later Mrs Comfort) was elected. The period of office of Lord Mayor was for one year and allocated on seniority of serving on the city council.

Roger Dudman died in 1995 and several local landmarks bear his name: posthumously the Oxford road, "Roger Dudman Way", the scene of more than 30 accidents and two fatalities in the past five years, and which is now adorned by a four-feet image of a blood-splattered cycle logo being pierced by a left turning arrow, and the Roger Dudman Stadium, home of Osney United.
