Rock Ferry railway station is situated in the Rock Ferry area of Birkenhead, Wirral, England. (The area takes its name from a former ferry service across the River Mersey to Liverpool.) The station is situated on the Chester and Ellesmere Port branches of the Wirral Line, part of the Merseyrail network. The disused Birkenhead Dock Branch line joins with the mainline at the station.
[edit] History
Rock Ferry station was opened in 1891 as the terminus of the Mersey Railway's line from Liverpool via the Mersey Railway Tunnel, when it was extended from its previous terminus at Green Lane station to the north. Electric train services began in 1903, when the line was electrified. It became part of British Rail's Merseyrail network in the 1970s. Further electrification in the 1980s and 1990s allowed electric train services to be extended, first to Hooton in 1985, then to Chester in 1993 and finally Ellesmere Port in 1994. in 2008 it was the title of an album by a soulful british singer named Duffy

Trains operate every 15 minutes (all day, every day) in each direction. Northbound trains operate via Hamilton Square station and the Mersey Railway Tunnel to Liverpool. Southbound trains continue to Hooton, from where trains continue every 30 minutes to each of Chester and Ellesmere Port.
