Talk:Robot combat
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I think the main picture should be changed to something more exciting. No offense to the robot's builder, but I think that people just learning about robot combat would be better off seeing Nightmare, Biohazard, Moe, or something more exciting. A non-weaponed bot just doesn't convey the 'robots that fight to the death' idea.
- I agree, what the f***... it's a lawnmower.
-
- No offense taken. If you have publication rights to a more suitable example, put it up.
- P.S. - That "lawnmower" won the largest cash prize awarded in US robot combat history, so show just a little respect.

- It still sucks balls. This is the WIKIPEDIA entry for robot combat. it should have actual modern combat robots in it, not heavily armored RC cars.

- Nice photo -- but you failed to properly copyright tag it. Please correct the tag or the wikicops will take it down. Now, why exactly do you find it necessary to dis' my 'bot? For the sake of wikiharmony, I request that you remove the inflamatory comment. 208.252.179.25 07:23, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

- I'm not going to remove my comment. As for the photo, I added the attribution. If you notice, it's a photo from the combots website, which is used to promote the event- so I classified it "fair use-promotional". We also have permission via email from Judge Dave, too.
- Now, on the page, I saw a couple things I thought should be changed:
- -1- Flame weapons are widespread and accepted enough that I think we can move them out of the "Prohibited" category. They fit much more nicely in the "Unusual" category. If explosives is what you mean, it should really be explicated.
- -2- "mecanum wheels" sounds like a trademarked name. I really think "Omni wheels" is a more widely accepted term, so that should be changed.
- -3- The "ask aaron" page link (which is yours, and self-promotion, not cool) is first on the list. I think all the others are more important, and it should be moved to the bottom.
- OT, but how much was that cash prize?

- - Please note that flame weapons are not listed in the "Prohibited" category, they are in the "Unusual" category and have been since I wrote that section.

- - Mecanum wheel is the correct term for the type of omni-directional wheel where the rollers are set 45 degrees to the axis, as in the weels used on 'Alcoholic Stepfather'. Omni wheel refers to an omni-directional wheel with discs or rollers set perpendicular to the wheel axis. Neither are trademarks. I cannot think of prominent combat robot that used omni wheel propulsion, but feel free to add a note within the Mecanum wheel description if you like.

- - The external links are in alphabetical order. If you believe another ordering methodology makes more sense, then please feel free to re-order them. The 'Ask Aaron' page is one of more than one hundred pages associated with my website. I listed it here because I belive that single page is specifically appropriate. It is not the only page referenced here by it's creator.

- You ask about the cash prize I won at Robotica, but you have not answered the question I asked about your disparaging comments and you refuse to remove those comments. Try being more civil. Run Amok 16:50, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
