[edit] February 2007

I don't understand how the stress from the rescue could cause him to kill himself 8 years after the fact. Do we even know that he killed himself because of the 1987 rescue? Was anything else going on in his life in 1995? Captain Jackson 21:56, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Hiya Captain Jackson. I would recommend reading the article in NYT (cited in the article) for how the PTSD manifested. In short, it was the sudden attention on him, the fame, the drama of it all, and then the lack of it, that caused psychological issues that he couldn't deal with. Then the Oklahoma City bombing happened, and that pushed him over the edge. Hope that helps! Janet13 20:00, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
