Sir Robert Andrew Burns (born on 21 July 1943), generally known as Sir Andrew Burns - is a former diplomat in the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office. From July 2005 until January 2007, he was the International Governor of the BBC. ^[1] He is also Chairman of the College Council of Royal Holloway, University of London.

He is a KCMG, and a FRSA.

He was educated at Highgate School, Highgate, Middlesex, England. He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University with a Master of Arts (M.A.).

[edit] Diplomatic career

He was with the Diplomatic Service between 1965 and 2003. He held the offices of:

- British Ambassador to Israel between 1992 and 1995;

- British Consul-General to Hong Kong and Macau between 1997 and 2000; and

- British High Commissioner to Canada between 2000 and 2003.

He was invested as a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (C.M.G.) in 1992, and as a Knight of the order (K.C.M.G.) in 1997. He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Society of Arts (F.R.S.A.) in 1997
