The paragraph about personality is really ridiculous. There were innumerable robots predating Robby who had as much or more humanity. See Metropolis (obviously), a bunch of Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers stuff, arguably Gort, and more. There was likewise plenty of precedent in sci-fi novels and plays for robots with highly complex personality traits. Want to know why everyone remembers Robby? I believe Movieland is closed, and thus the final paragraph should be altered.

Did Robby appear in Star Wars? Take a look at the scene where the Jawas line up the droids for sale, and Uncle Owen buys C-3PO and R2-D2. Is that Robby standing at the end of the line?

I believe you're right but it's very fugitive something like Hitchcock's appearances in his movies.
