Robert P. Deegan

Robert P. Deegan is the 9th permanent Superintendent/President of Palomar College.

A San Diego resident, Deegan has served as Vice President of Student Services at Santiago Canyon College since January 1999. He has been responsible for the overall planning, coordination, delivery, budgeting, and evaluation of Santiago’s Student Services Program, including enrollment management, admissions and records, counseling services, cross-cultural resource center, disabled students program and services, transfer center, financial aid, and much more. Deegan twice served as Interim Vice President of Student Services, with similar responsibilities, at Irvine Valley College from 1989-90 and again from 1993-94. Before joining the staff at Santiago Canyon College, he was a professor in the School of Guidance and Counseling at Irvine Valley College for 18 years, including 16 years as an instructor of counseling and applied psychology and eight years as Chair of the Counseling Department. Deegan earned his Bachelor’s Degree in psychology and Master’s Degree in Counseling from San Francisco State University. He will receive his Doctoral Degree in community college leadership from Oregon State University this fall. He also holds lifetime credentials as a community college psychology instructor and community college counselor.
