Robert Denby is a fictional character from the 1976 television show Gemini Man. He is played by Ed Nelson. This show was shortly cancelled after an 8 episode run, and like many cancelled shows of the time period, was later released as a feature film. The resulting film, a consecutive showing of the first two episodes of Gemini Man, was titled Riding with Death and was the feature film riffed in the popular show Mystery Science Theater 3000 in episode 0814, aired in July of 1997.
Robert Denby's character is a political terrorist who is a managing employee of a Canadian car racing track in Ontario. In the film version Riding With Death, just before the second episode begins (half way through the film) Leonard Driscoll (played by Richard Dysart) remarked that the main character Sam Casey (played by Ben Murphy) is "as elusive as Robert Denby". This is initially lost on the viewer, however, as we don't get introduced to Robert Denby for another 7-10 minutes.
To be considered as elusive as Robert Denby is apparently to be quite elusive indeed, as Leonard Driscoll recalls "Denby has been attached to every incident of national sabotage in the past 5 years". Assuming this is set in the present, one could estimate that Robert Denby had committed numerous acts of sabotage between the years of 1971 and 1976.
