[edit] General Information

RIVEXNGLE, commonly shortened to RIVE, is the screen name for Richard R. Norley III among the internet. Richard tends to be a friendly and polite internet user on a majority of occasions. His main interest is to entertain other people or users. He has done so by creating numerous UMS games for the PC video game StarCraft. He also is an artist and frequent video game player.

[edit] StarCraft

Since it's release to the PC in 1998, Richard was a casual player of the video game StarCraft. He mainly played the custom scenarios of Blizzard's or his own design. It wasn't until the year 2004 when he received the internet and a connection to Blizzard's free online service battle.net It was then when he started releasing his UMS games to the users of battle.net. He soon became a fan of making non interactive games where players would rather watch the actions of the game unfold then to do them themselves. He was inspired to create these movie type games after viewing one for himself entitled The Shifters created by JudasCloud and it's sequel Fields of Ash. Since then, Richard has produced several UMS game movies both individually and collaboratively. His most well know map seires is titled Zpothu vs. RIVE. Most of his work is submitted to a StarCraft fan website.[1]

[edit] Art

To Richard, it's not art unless it get's the other person to think. Sometimes to think for a second, and sometimes a deep thought. With these thoughts it brings about interest and criticism, and Richard has been able to make others feel that way. Using Macromedia Flash MX 7 and 8, Richard has created several pieces of art. All of which have been posted onto the internet via Windows Live Space.[2]

[edit] The Name

  • RIVEXNGLE (pronounced rive single, or correctly pronounced rahyv shing-guh)
    • RIVE, apart from it being an actual word[3] and place, is an acronym that stands for "Richard Is Very Excellent". The name was originally thought of by Richard Norley in 2004.
    • XNGLE, the last or ending part to the name, came into play after Richard had placed an 'x' in front of the word 'angle' causing the 'a' to be deleted. This typo stuck on as a backup name for Richard whenever the name "rive" was took by another user.
  • RICE
    • RICE was a common typo to the screen name RIVE mainly do to the fact that the 'c' is next to the 'v'. Faster typers usually ran into the trouble of pushing the 'c' key instead of the 'v' key. As this error progressed, rice soon became more of a nickname or joke to use against rive.
